The Orlando Magic are still on schedule for their $200 million entertainment complex that will bring new business to Orlando.
During a June 23 presentation to Orlando’s City Council, the team showed some other sports and entertainment venues around the world that have inspired the Magic’s designs for the future complex.
In essence, each venue discussed is built like a mini-district, sort of like New York’s Times Square with large surrounding buildings and large TV screens portraying advertisements or other content.
LA Live in Los Angeles was the first example the Orlando Magic gave as to what they envisioned for their complex. This massive complex sits at more than 5 million square feet and hosts entertainment options like concert halls, theaters, restaurants and nightclubs all across the way from the Staples Center arena. That arena is home to the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, as well as the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings.
Kansas City’s Power & Light District measures at more than 500,000 square feet of retail, entertainment space with plans to include apartment towers. It is near the Sprint Center arena, which is used to host multiple NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
Here’s the Cidade de Copa in São Lourenço da Mata, Brazil. This complex will consist of multiple different amenities such as a hotel, convention center, and business and entertainment real estate.
Similar to the Magic’s plan, Victory Park caters to Dallas Mavericks fans leaving the American Airlines Center. This district includes a hotel, a residential tower, as well as entertainment options like a House of Blues.
Dubbed “Berlin Live,” this rendering looks similar to what the Orlando Magic have in mind with an open center surrounded by retail and entertainment.
The timeline for the complex has yet to be determined, but it will consist of 100,000 square feet of office space, 250 hotel rooms with 40,000 square feet of meeting space, 250 residential units, 64,000 square feet of retail space and a parking garage.
